I hope you all had a great Thanksgiving! We sure did. Drew was at his best, and it was great to see both sides of our family in Iowa. Josh's for Thanksgiving Day, and mine over the weekend. Everyone was glad to see Drew so energetic and happy. It was wonderful to GO to see family, instead of them always coming to see us. We got to check out my brother's fire station, which the kids loved! They got to sit in a BIG gator!
Then, back to reality...we had an appointment this morning to check him over one last time before we started the next round. Everything looks great. Even got to lower the dose on a vitamin since he's no longer deficient--small victories! So we got checked late this morning at St Mary's, and they've started the chemo. The first day is just the two chemos, and then tomorrow the infusion of antibodies will be added. Going over the med lists with the doctors and nurses, it already feels great to have a plan, to have done this before and know what to expect. We continue to ask you all to pray for comfort this week, for rest, and for these therapies to get to work! In only a couple weeks we'll rescan to see if this trial is working. Please, pray that it is!!
On my side we celebrated my Grandma's 95th birthday. It was a big party--over 30 people, many I haven't seen for over a year and some we met for the first time. It was a great reminder again of what we are fighting for. To spend many, many more special occasions with family and celebrate life. I felt like we weren't only celebrating Grandma's life, but life in general. After Thanksgiving and really reflecting on all we have to be grateful for, spending the weekend with family was wonderful. I really didn't want to come back. Didn't want to go back to the hospital, have to see him sick, have to gather my strength again. But luckily, it isn't just MY strength I operate on. Praise God who has gotten us through so much this year, and will continue to get us through whatever comes next.
I'll update mid-week with how things are going, Josh again takes over for the second half of this stay, with the plan being to bring Drew home on Saturday!
