Drawing from Drew

5-15-16

Drew continues to do well post-surgery. This weekend he's remained fever free, and the cultures have not grown anything in the 48 hour period. He seems to be able to do more and more each day, walking around and playing. Josh was able to bring him home today, they got here just after lunchtime! I can tell he's not 100%, but he certainly is doing well, considering all he's been through. We have the Tylenol and Ibuprofen to continue, and also one of the stronger pain medications if we need it. The incision runs down the middle of his belly, from about his sternum and ends at his belly button, that they went around! Our instructions are just not to submerge the incision, which is the same orders for his central line, so bathing him shouldn't change a whole lot. We are suppose to watch for signs of infection, fever and redness around the incision, but besides that, this week will be all about making sure he takes it easy and keeping his pain under control as he continues to heal. My wonderful friend just dropped off a sand table that I think will be the perfect low-impact activity for the week! I have such great friends!

Thank you all for celebrating with us this week!
