Drawing from Drew

5-23-16

Our update today really doesn't include much from a medical standpoint! Drew seems 100%, or even more then that! Whew, remember when I asked what I would have been doing this year if it wasn't for all this? Well I've figured it out, chase him around, everywhere! He's one busy guy, full of energy and smiles. Our lovable Drew is back in full force! Which is great, because then everyone at the benefit could see him at his best. It was a great day. Both of our families made it up, as well as many, many friends from our community, and even beyond! Molly loved the bowling and excitement, and Drew never stopped moving! We feel so blessed to have the support of all those that came, and those that came in spirit, but had prior commitments or couldn't make the trip. My friends who put it on did a wonderful job, I can't thank them enough for all the work they put into making the day so special! A HUGE thank you to everyone!! Drew got to pull out the winner of the 12 volt battery operated kid's Gator--and wouldn't you know it, Grandma Becker won!! She decided we'd get the most use out of it, so now it's parked in the garage ;) The kids have already enjoyed it, and I'm seeing I don't need a workout tape if it's Gator fun morning! ;)

I'll take Drew back on Wednesday for a surgery follow up appointment and a pre-chemo check up. If all looks good, we'll be admitted and he'll start his 6th round of Chemo that day. It's the 3 day, 24-hour drip again this time, so it *could* be a shorter stay again if all goes well. Please pray it does! My mom is coming up to stay with Molly when I take Drew in, as Josh has a business trip he left on today that he'll return from Thursday night.

We've really gotten used to being at home again, almost found our new normal. I have started to feel comfortable, starting up old routines and establishing new ones. We've only been inpatient for 4 days in May so far! In the middle of such long stays in the hospital as we've had, its easy to forget what good times look and feel like, and get overwhelmed and discouraged. This month at home has reminded me what we are fighting so hard for, so all of us can be healthy and back together for good! How great the day will be when we can do errands, go to play dates, take family walks together, go on day trips, and just be happy together without cancer looming over us. We go back to take the last round of Chemo, bracing for the short term effects we've had a pleasant break from, and face the bone marrow transplant next month with a stronger-then-ever will to fight through this, whatever it takes!

Here's some pictures from the benefit!
