Drawing from Drew

5-19-16

Well I hope by now you all have realized that longer stretches without updates is a good thing! We have had a great week at home. Drew was still a bit weak and sore the beginning of the week. He tired easily and got whiny, so we tried to keep it low-key. Sandbox has been great, we also did stuff around the house, and probably watched a little more TV then we normally do! But the last couple days he's been rearin' to go. The weather has been so nice, we've been able to take walks each day, and even went to the park today. We've all had a cold the last week, that's still hanging on this week. Now that we know what REALLY sick looks like, its hard to complain about a cold, but it's still pretty annoying. We want to all feel better for our big party this weekend. Molly is SO excited, and so are we. It will be so nice to see family and friends, and see the love we've felt from everyone in this last 4 months right in front of us. It will be nice to have a celebration of our tough little Drew! If his followup checkup with Surgery goes well next Wednesday, he'll begin the 6th and final round of "regular" chemo. The bone marrow transplant involves high dose chemo, but is kind of it's own thing entirely. Obviously, we are going to be so grateful to get the chemo cycle stage of his treatment behind us!

When Drew was a little newborn we were so struck by how much him and Molly looked alike (exactly like their father), we took a side by side picture of them. I remembered to do it the next year, and it was so fun to see how much they'd changed. This year it's no different, they are quite the pair! It's easy to let the physical changes make us sad with Drew this year, but we know his body is actually healthier then it probably was last year. We all have changed so much this year. Maybe you can't tell with side-by-sides (save some gray hairs for sure!), but inside we have a whole new perspective on life, and have a new found strength from God. I know I've grown so much spiritually and emotionally so far, not to mention in my medical knowledge! Imagine where we'll be next year, we hope and pray it's in an even better place!
