Drawing from Drew

Our second transplant day is here! They thawed out the stem cells in a warm bath, and then hung the bag this morning after a nice blessing from the chaplain. The stem cells went in without any complications, in just about an hour. This time, again, I am just in awe of the miracle this all really is. From those stem cell's dramatic collection back in April, and them going in now to bring him back. Praise God!

Overall, Drew had a pretty good weekend with Dad, but last night he seemed to take a turn. Got sick a few times and had enough loose diapers in a row that we ran a sample for c-diff. So far that culture hasn't come back, but if it is positive we would start an antibiotic to take care of it. We also started a third anti nausea med and it seems to have his vomiting under control again. We are also scaling back his feeds. He is starting to complain about his "bum bum" hurting, which is what he was saying last time when the GI tract started to break down. So we've started the pain medications too. This morning he also ran a fever, so they took cultures and started preemptive antibiotics. If you've lost track, in total we are now running three different anti-nausea meds, two pain meds, two antibiotics, and a marrow stimulant. Thankful we have so many options to keep him comfortable, but sad we have to use them all! His counts will continue to decline, we aren't at the bottom yet, but will be probably in the next couple days. Then we will most likely hang out at the bottom for the next 10-14 days, last time he bounced back at about day 10, post-transplant. So we will see! Please continue to pray that we can keep him as comfortable as possible, and that his body stays strong against infections and complications!

Last week I had kind of a hard time coming back to this place after so long at home. I'm not used to this setting anymore, and missed Molly and our family being together. This weekend was a nice break, Molly and I dropped my Aunt off at the airport and had a nice adventure to Minnehaha Falls while we were in the Cities. I'm starting the week back in "game mode" and ready to get this, our last intense hurdle, done! Keep us all in your prayers as usual, Molly too as she goes back to daycare this week after a pretty long break from it over the summer.
